Colonial Motel Receives First Dollar

The “Imaginary Friends Stay Free” marquee at the Colonial Motel is just one of many sayings that might make one do a double take when passing by the Colonial Motel on Highway U.S. 2.

The New owner, Michael Phelan, purchased the motel in late 2017 from long-time owners Bob and Bonnie Vincent. Phelan, who moved up from the Chicago area along with his collection of antique Cadillacs, found the motel listing online and took the plunge to come check it out. By the end of his visit, he had made up his mind.

The motel now has an online presence with a new website that showcases the rich history, recent upgrades, specials, and photos. Along with their website, the Colonial has been receiving rave reviews on Trip Advisor, a travel website for unbiased traveler reviews.

Guests say they enjoy the great customer service, cleanliness, and the hometown charm. Whether it’s announcing someone’s birthday on the marquee, serving coffee and cookies at the front desk, or being greeted by three adorable pups in the lobby, the atmosphere is always inviting.

Contact the Colonial Motel at 341-6656 or stop by the lobby at 1119 E Lakeshore Drive in Manistique.
